Thai Boxing in Hua Hin

Muay Thai Hua Hin

Thai Boxing in Hua Hin has great history when it comes to boxing in Thailand, the first Thai boxer to win a world title was from Hua Hin. Pone Kingpetch was a professional boxer and 3 time world flyweight champion. He became Thailand’s first world boxing champion on April 16, 1960 when he defeated Pascual Pérez of Argentina at Lumphini Boxing Stadium in Bangkok for the world flyweight championship.

Muay Thai or Thai Boxing is the national sport of Thailand in which competitors may strike each other with knees, elbows, kicks and punches. This physical and mental discipline which includes combat on shins is known as “the art of eight limbs” because it combines the use of fists, elbows, knees, shins and requires very high physical fitness that makes a full contact fighter very efficient. Muay Thai spread widely internationally in the twentieth century, when practitioners defeated high level opponents of other martial arts. It is a spectacular and devastating martial art demonstrating many aspects of Thai culture.

Hua Hin has two main boxing stadiums that have regular fights weekly. Grand Sports Arena is a recreation hall that holds many sports tournaments including Muay Thai, which occurs at 9pm every Wednesday and Friday. They also offer other forms of martial arts lessons to those who would like to try something different from Muay Thai. Another place to witness an authentic Thai fight is at Thai Boxing Garden, which holds fights at 9pm on every Tuesday and Saturday. They also offer Thai boxing lessons for both recreation and professional training.

Many visitors to Hua Hin have Muay Thai on their agenda of must-see activities and while there are undoubtedly large and well attended arenas in Bangkok, Hua Hin has a few smaller venues where it´s just as easy to enjoy an amazing night of Muay Thai entertainment. So if you want to experience high level Muay Thai Boxing and maybe even some training, why not do it taking advantage of the beautiful area of Hua Hin or Cha Am.
